Quokka Birthday September Activities

Quokka Questions with Rottnest Rangers
Did you know that the name ‘Quokka’ comes from the name given to the animal by the Aboriginal people living in the Augusta and King George Sound area of the south-west of Western Australia? Or that Quokkas generally spend most of the day sleeping and resting under shady bushes?
Find this out and more as you learn about the curious behavior and habits of the Quokkas and the other incredible Island wildlife from one of our Rottnest Rangers.

Quokka Spotting & Beach Bonfire
Saturday 18 September | 5:30am to 7:30pm
Discover what our furry friends get up to when the sun goes down, followed by a bonfire on North Thomson beach! The celebrations start early for those staying on Rottnest Island the night before the Quokka Birthday Party.
Head to North Thomson beach shelter to join in a 45-minute Quokka Spotting tour at dusk. Bring your torch and keep your eyes peeled for our cheeky friends. After the tour settle in on the sand at North Thomson. Toast marshmallows over the bonfire or pop into one of the Settlement cafés or restaurants for a takeaway meal.
The events are free to attend, however you will need to register for the Quokka Spotting tour. There are two tours to choose from, departing at 5:45pm or 6:45pm.
If you wish to only attend the bonfire, simply head to the beach at North Thomson from 5:30pm.
Quokka Detective Treasure Hunt
1 to 30 September 2021
You’ve seen their adorable faces, but did you know that Quokkas love a good riddle and make incredible detectives? In celebration of their birthday, our friends have put together a treasure hunt so you can join in on one of their favourite games!
To play, all you need to do is visit Rottnest Island during the month of September and head to the locations listed online to find the answer to each puzzle. Plus, every child aged 12 and under who completes the treasure hunt will receive a special gift! Simply pop into the Rottnest Island Visitor Centre to show your completed clues to receive your prize*.
